The Lincoln Academy Dormitory building is the first free-standing building built on the campus of Lincoln Academy in 180 years. It is the 37,000 square foot cap project of a three-phase international boarding program established in 2010.
The building houses 54 male and female students in double and triple room occupancies. It headquarters the international program administration office on the first floor level, along with six family apartment residences for the dedicated support families for the student residents.
The building program is designed so that no more than twelve students are supervised by a local resident family. Outside the front door of each family residence is a common living room area. These five spaces are central to each of five color oriented “neighborhoods.” The neighborhoods are gender-specific. Circulation elements of the building program, stair towers, allow the students to move freely about the building in a managed way so that one gender never haphazardly meanders through that of the opposite gender.
Central to the building on the first floor level is a large Common Room. This is where international students can mingle with local students in casual atmosphere. Lectures and educational presentations can be accommodated or two students can simply enjoy a game of ping-pong.
